Laurence Mitchell is a writer and photographer based in Norwich, UK. He is the author of Westering: Footways and Folkways from Norfolk to the Welsh Coast (Saraband 2021) as well as several travel and walking guides: Slow Travel Norfolk and Slow Travel Suffolk, the predecessor of which, Slow Norfolk & Suffolk (Bradt/Alastair Sawday’s), was shortlisted for the 2010 Eastern Daily Press-Jarrold East Anglian Book Awards, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan and Belgrade (all Bradt), and Suffolk Coast and Heaths Walks and Walking in Norfolk (Cicerone). He was updater of Georgia (Bradt 4th edition), 50 Walks in Norfolk (AA, 3rd edition) and the Norfolk chapter of The Good Pub Guide (2021). He has also contributed to other books that include Bus-Pass Britain and Bus-Pass Britain Rides Again (both Bradt), A Moveable Feast and Northeast India (both Lonely Planet), Encounters With The Middle East (Solas House), The Silk Road (Insight Guides), Est: Collected reports from East Anglia (Dunlin Press) and New Towns: an Anthology (Wild Pressed Books 2020). Laurence has written features for publications as wide-ranging as Geographical, Sunday Times, Guardian, i newspaper, Heritage, Walk, Discovery Channel Magazine, Discover Britain, JetWings, Discover India, Serendib, Wizz, Scottish Memories, Real Travel, Russian Life, Odyssey and Church Times. As well as travel-related topics he has also written regular world music reviews for Perceptive Travel webzine. He has been a regular contributor of travel pieces to hidden europe magazine since 2005.
Laurence is a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers and the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild.

Well thank you kindly, Dina. I do hope that you enjoy reading it. The idea of the book is not just ‘slow’ but what makes an area ie: Suffolk and Norfolk, distinctive – what individual character do they have to offer in this homogenised world.
By the way, I loved your country, Norway, and would like to return and explore more one day. I think Norwegians are lucky to have been born in such a place blessed by nature and a good outlook on life.

Not far from there but more urban – outskirts of Redditch and before that Bromsgrove and Stourbridge. I used to sometimes go to Hanbury on my bike as a boy.
